During my morning commute this week, I was listening to the radio when the radio host shared a testimony from a pastor who visited his church. The visiting pastor has a daughter who he was told would be born at 3 lbs 4 oz without fully developed ears or eyes. An amniocentesis procedure confirmed it. He and his wife prayed and prepared themselves for their new baby. Two weeks later, his daughter was born. She weighed 6 lbs and 8 oz and had fully functioning ears and eyes! That’s twice the predicted weight! That’s a miracle right? Well there is more. Some years later, the pastor took his daughter to an eye doctor for a regular visit. After examining the girl, this renowned doctor asked the pastor how long it had been since the eye transplant surgery. Confused by the question, the pastor explained that she never had any surgeries. The doctor was astounded. It turns out that this little girl had two different eyes from two different people! Testing proved that indeed both eyes had completely different DNA – none of which matched the child! Now that is a miracle.
Do you believe in miracles? I do. A Miracle is something that happens that cannot be explained by natural or scientific laws. While all miracles may not be as large as what happened to that pastor and his wife, smaller miracles happen everyday. You know that time you “almost” had a car accident but “somehow” the situation changed and you were safe. Or that time when your child “accidentally” did something they shouldn’t have and “surprisingly” were unharmed. Or that time when you were out of money and had a major expense to take car of and “somehow” you received an unexpected way to finance it. I believe these small miracles happen often and many times we don’t even pay attention to them or even give thanks for them. As we go into this Easter weekend, I encourage you to enter into it looking for the small miracles in your life. Why not take it a step further and be grateful for them! Someone said your actions will follow your thoughts. If that is true, then imagine what would happen if you changed your mind’s focus from all the things that are not where you want them to be to all those small miracles that have impacted your life in positive ways. Miracles happen everyday, we just have to pay attention.
That is so true. The thing about it is I never thought of them as miracles. I simply thought they were blessings, but I guess blessings are miracles. It all depends on how you look at it. Thanks for the reminder.
Ayesha, I think blessings are a great way to think of them. Just a reminder to be aware that they are occurring everyday and are grateful for them in our lives. As always, thanks for reading!
